The Sad Truth

What would happen if we had another Ice Age? What I should say is, what will happen? The sad truth, as fleeting as my faith in our wondrous human race, is that it would be every person for themselves. Survival instinct would kick in, fear would grip us. Our ability to reason has tainted us with the idea that our lives are worth something precious. In a sense of reality and existence, we are nothing more than any other creature, when life is considered. We have used our ability of reason to create opportunity to rise against all odds. It has worked fantastically! We have managed to avoid crises and pandemonium, and still we never learn. We've made our lives so easy that all we have to do is find a way to spend all of our free time. We had meaning, we used to bear some iota of positivity about us; we survived because of our hardships. Now we are nothing more than the machines we so lovingly pleasure-grip for entertainment. Now our hardships deal in debt. For the money we don't have to buy the things we don't need that entertain us and give our easy lives meaning. I hate to say this, but we have lost our values. Many before me have come to this conclusion, albeit they have a less cynical taste in their mouths. Most people realize this truth, this blatant display, yet they look the other way. How do we stop this? How does it change? I don't have the answers. Maybe it cannot be halted. I, you may not believe my saying, am just another block in the problem.

It's at this time, some of us are lucky enough to believe in a higher power than ourselves. One who will take care of us; who will alleviate the responsibilities of our faults, of our shortcomings. Do I believe the human race has limits? Of course! Do I believe we are limitless within our limits? Of course! I think more and more people are lost and without direction these days because we've become detached as a whole from our true purpose. Work used to be a necessity. Now, it is just a means to alleviate our debt. There are some of us who have risen above even our normal, average people and who benefit the most from our disposition. Those are the super rich. They're the ones who've been able to exploit weakness in our supposed
limitlessness. The need for entertainment is probably the most easily exploitable human need. As they are human, they have been corrupted by their lifestyle. They enjoy the "finer things in life". Money is expelled like the energy of a lightning strike. Why are they not helping the needy, the desperate, the sick, and the desolate? This begs the question, why do we want to be like them? So we can just ignore those beneath us, so our physical and emotional hardships can be alleviated? If we weren't so materialistic, life would be much different for us, me thinks.

Bear in mind there are few who are righteous. But it is impossible to be perfectly good. We are weak, and we are not pillars of any one thing all of the time. I was told once, that even good-willed politicians who swear to remain good in the face of adversity, usually fall to the trappings of corruption. Even our heroes need assistance from the would-be lesser ones. There are no heroes after all, they are only those who see a means of conception and stick to that ideal to its completion. Inspiration.

Now, when I cry my tears, it will not be for our Mother Earth alone, it will be concomitant with our race. What have we wrought here? Our pleasure, or ease, has brought unbearable suffering to this planet. She will strike back - she will stop us. Mark my words.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope it has found you well! I hope you are all safe and at home with loved ones, as I type!
